Training

Time for your first flight. There's just one little catch; land or carrier-based. Pick one of the links below and read all about how a first flight is done. Past experience in any quality flight sim helps immensely with most standard things, like takeoff and landing or approach procedures. You should learn to hand-fly the aircraft as much as possible since the autopilot is merely a crutch. Also turn off any "helper" features, like auto-takeoff or auto-trim; they don't improve your skill at all. With the automatics handling trim, mixture, or flying the aircraft you'll never be top-notch. These "features" have a built-in margin of error that will never keep the aircraft trimmed exactly, or keep the fuel flow set just right. To be an ace you have to learn how to do all this stuff by yourself. After all, it's a P-47 not an F-15.
